A work from the artist’s early period, interpreting the theme of Ut pictura poesis. Studied and published by Luca Fiorentino.
Recently acquired by the Gallerie degli Uffizi (formerly with Frascione Gallery), the painting is attributed to Francesco Cairo on the basis of stylistic comparison and archival documentation.
The dating precedes July 1635, as recorded in the inventory of Palazzo Reale in Turin.
The work contributes to refining the chronology of Cairo’s early Baroque phase and clarifies its connection with the cultural environment of Cardinal Maurizio di Savoia.
